MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary

“Life-giving” is how the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary describes the contribution of Pick ‘n Save gift cards to support their efforts. The Sanctuary is established in the epicenter of the most extreme food desert in Wisconsin. On donation day, the guests who received gift cards were overwhelmed with gratitude and nearly speechless with joy.

Benedict Center

The Benedict Center is seeing the impacts of the pandemic are still ravaging their most at-risk and in-need community members. The Center is also seeing spikes in domestic abuse and other forms of violence, causing more women to need assistance for their basic needs, putting additional strain on these women and families that were already stretched to the breaking point.

Pathfinders

Because of the donation of Pick ‘n Save Gift cards, Pathfinders has started a weekly cooking class. Not only do the young people learn to cook, but they also gain the confidence of accomplishing a task. Pathfinders hopes these classes will encourage young people to pursue cooking as a profession.

Meta House

Meta House is deeply grateful for the Pick ‘n Save gift cards that helped woman-led families in their Recovery Housing and Outpatient Treatment programs overcome food insecurity during uncertain times. This organization strives to end the generational cycle of addiction by healing women and strengthening families. The overwhelming majority of the women and children they serve are also battling poverty, trauma, and low literacy rates.

Milwaukee LGBT

Milwaukee LGBT operates a food pantry and clothing closet all year round, but as the cold weather settles in, these services become more popular and necessary. They have used the gift cards to replenish their food pantry when items have gotten low and have also given cards to community members to provide meals to their families. This donation from Pick ‘n Save and the Bucks is crucial to the survival of the area’s homeless LGBTQ community.

Maroon Calabash

Maroon Calabash believes that communities where the nourishment resources to properly care for residents and their families is not out of reach. Food security and access to food, including the gift card donations, is a crucial component of Reproductive Justice and Postpartum Justice, which is defined as "the right to choose to have children, to not have children, and raise the children in our lives in safe and healthy communities."
